How To Reduce CNC Processing Costs by Optimizing Parts Design

There are many factors that affect the cost of CNC parts processing, including material cost, processing difficulty and technology, equipment cost, labor cost and production quantity, etc. High processing costs often put great pressure on the profits of enterprises. When designing parts, consider the following suggestions to speed up production time while reducing CNC part processing costs.

Hole Depth and Diameter

The larger the hole depth, the more difficult it is to process and the higher the cost. The size of the hole should be greater than or equal to the required load-bearing capacity of the part, and factors such as the hardness and toughness of the material should also be considered. The size of the hole depth should be determined according to the functional and structural requirements of the part. When drilling, attention should be paid to maintaining the sharpness of the drill bit and the adequacy of the cutting fluid to ensure drilling quality and efficiency. If deep hole processing is required, you can consider using advanced processes such as high-speed milling to improve processing efficiency and quality.

Thread

Many manufacturers use "taps" to cut internal threads. A tap looks like a toothed screw and "screws" into a previously drilled hole. Using a more modern method of making threads, a tool called a thread mill is used to insert the thread profile. This creates precise threads and any thread size that shares that pitch (threads per inch) can be cut with a single milling tool, saving production and installation time. Therefore, UNC and UNF threads from #2 to 1/2 inch and metric threads from M2 to M12 are available in a single tool set.

Word

Adding text to CNC parts will not affect processing costs, but adding text may affect processing time. If there is a lot of text or the font is small, it may take longer to process. Additionally, adding text may also reduce the accuracy and quality of the part, as the text may affect the surface finish and shape of the part. It is recommended that text should be concave rather than raised, and it is recommended to use a 20 point or larger sans serif font.

Multi-axis milling

Using multi-axis milling parts, first of all, multi-axis machining can reduce datum conversion and improve machining accuracy. Secondly, multi-axis machining can reduce the number of fixtures and floor space. In addition, multi-axis machining can shorten the production process chain and simplify production management. Therefore, multi-axis machining can shorten the development cycle of new products.
